Grand Huts Association :: Educational Programs

The Grand Huts Association offers year round environmental programs for backcountry visitors of all ages. These programs foster appreciation for the rich diversity and natural heritage associated with sub-alpine ecosystems, promote low-impact backcountry recreation, and encourage awareness into inherent dangers associated with backcountry use. GHA also works with Grand Youth Adventures to provide opportunities for community service and learning.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES . . .

HEADWATERS OUTREACH INITIATIVE:
A collaborative group of local non-profits led by GHA volunteers kicked off the Headwaters Outreach Initiative at Second Creek Cabin. This is now an annual event.

East Grand Middle School students participated in learning about high elevation ecosystem processes including:

High elevation life zones, wildlife tracking, food web recognition
Wetland/riparian ecology, aquatic habitat, and watershed awareness
Leave no trace ethic, human impacts & mitigation, and maintaining ecosystem integrity
Outdoor adventures, wilderness survival, mountain navigation, and avalanche safety
