Grand Huts Association :: The Future of the Huts

Ease of access and proximity to wilderness, Grand County is one of Colorado’s premier recreation sites. Ski areas, lakes, wilderness areas and national forest lands offer almost limitless opportunities for all sorts of recreation. From Berthoud Pass to Grand Lake, along the west side of the Continental Divide, there is great potential for development of a system of backcountry huts which could link with existing facilities. It is GHA's goal to create a hut system that is as environmentally sound as possible while sustaining backcountry activities.

GHA'S FIRST COMPLETED PROJECT . . .

THE BROOME HUT AT SECOND CREEK:
The Broome Hut, originally called the Second Creek Hut, in the Second Creek Basin on the west side of Berthoud Pass, Colorado is one of the finest high altitude skiing and hiking locales in Colorado. Ease of access and relative safety from avalanches make for excellent backcountry recreation opportunities. You can reserve a night at the Broome Hut by going to huts.org to check for availability of the Broome Hut. Then call the reservation number for Tenth Mountain Reservations (970) 925-5775 to reserve.

Since this project has been completed, we will soon begin the second project of the new hut system. Our first priority will be opening existing huts that have been closed, to managed public use.
