ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Prepared detailed Environmental Assessment as required by US Forest Service policy. A public “scoping” period allowed for comments from the public, and the project was enthusiastically endorsed. The USFS, Colorado Division of Wildlife and Grand Environmental Services gave generously of their time to get this stage completed.
- Project approved in 2006! After 7 years of effort, the USFS approved
the Second Creek Hut replacement. This is the only Colorado hut project on public land to reach the permitting stage in more than 15 years!
- Trail work with AmeriCorp, Eagle Scouts, U.S. Forest Service and a group of dedicated volunteers resulted in a trail that meets Forest Service standards. It replaced a number of existing trails – some going through environmentally unique and sensitive areas.
