HEADWATERS OUTREACH INITIATIVE:
A collaborative group of local non-profits led by GHA volunteers kicked off the Headwaters Outreach Initiative at Second Creek Cabin. This is now an annual event. East Grand Middle School students participated in learning about high elevation ecosystem processes including: high elevation life zones, wildlife tracking, and food web recognition; wetland/riparian ecology, aquatic habitat, and watershed awareness; leave no trace ethic, human impacts and mitigation, and maintaining ecosystem integrity; outdoor adventures, wilderness survival, mountain
navigation, and avalanche safety.
This program takes place early each school year at Second Creek Cabin on Berthoud Pass.
AVALANCHE CLASSES:
The huts are a great tool to teach about avalanche safety. Avalanche and rescue basics are covered. Stay tuned to our SCHEDULE for opportunities to register for an avalanche class.
ECOLOGICAL FOLLOW-UPS:
This session is designed for those who have already participated in one of our other programs. Ecological progress/stress is examined and recorded and determined if any action is needed. GHA will continue to monitor the environment to ensure impacts are minimalized. This is also planned to be a part of the high school science program.
CUSTOM CLASSES/WORKSHOPS:
Custom classes and workshops can be developed to meet your needs. Contact us at 970-726-9877 or email info@grandhuts.org to explore the many options available. Or rent the hut to present your own backcountry workshop.
Dates and Times for scheduled programs can be found on our SCHEDULE. |
