The Grand Huts Association is working to enhance backcountry cabin facilities in the forests of Grand County. GHA will work to open to public use cabins already in existence on public and private lands and to build new structures; where appropriate to assist in managing intense use of fragile ecosystems. These new and existing huts will eventually link together with a backcountry trail system from Berthoud Pass, just south of Winter Park, all the way to Grand Lake, near Rocky Mountain National Park. This eco-friendly Hut System is planned to consist of nine huts total and includes four existing huts, all in the backcountry of Grand County, Colorado. The system is in the planning stages only. As new and existing huts are opened, we will be updating the website, so stay tuned for more information.
PROPOSED HUT SYSTEM MAP:

THE BROOME HUT:
The Broome Hut is our first project, which requires a brand new building, and will replace the old Second Creek Hut. Building is expected to begin in 2009, but all funding must be in place in order to start. DONATE NOW to help us finish this project.
THE HIGH LONESOME HUT:
The High Lonesome Hut exists and is open year round. Travel the 2.5 mile long trail to the Hut by hiking, mountain biking, on horseback, on cross country skis or by any non-motorized method you choose. For more information, visit their website: www.lonesome-hut.com |
